Join the WI Friends of John Muir, Ice Age Trail, Marquette County Healthy Communities, and the Sierra Club to celebrate John Muir’s Birthday, the 50th Anniversary of the Wilderness Act, and Earth Day!
Feel free to join us for part or all of this multi-location celebration.
10:00-11:00 Earth Day Clean Up at John Muir Memorial County Park
11:00-11:15 Wilderness Act - Celebrating 50 years of protecting land, water, & wildlife to explore and enjoy, Shahla Werner, Sierra Club, John Muir Memorial County Park
11:15-12:15 John Muir’s Story and History Hike - Hear the tale of John Muir’s boyhood in Marquette County and hike into the adjacent prairie boarding Ennis Lake. Kathleen McGwin and Daryl Christensen will be your guides. John Muir Memorial County Park
12:30- 1:30 Lunch - Bring your lunch and picnic at the park or travel to Vaughn Hall, 55 West Montello Street, and eat in the old dance hall upstairs (or grab lunch in downtown Montello). Visit the John Muir Exhibit and other displays downstairs.
1:30-2:15 Free Children's Concert - The Prairie Sands Band will entertain children and adults alike with a combination of childhood favorites, folk tunes, original songs both silly and wondrous, and a few foot stamping jigs, Vaughn Hall, 55 West Montello Street, Montello.
2:15 Delicious Birthday Cake prepared by Chef Lynn Bult,
Vaughn Hall, Montello
